His father and father in law, both Tulane Graduates, were strong influences in his life; one inspired him to become a physician, the other to specialize in orthopaedics. Following his internship at Charity Hospital in 1951, Dr. Brent went into an established orthopaedic practice with Dr. H. Theodore Simon, serving on the staff at Hotel Dieu for more than forty years. Over his 58 years of practice, he also served on the staff at Montelepre Hospital, Chalmette General Hospital, Elmwood Hospital, and until January of 2008 at St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling, LA.
He was a longtime supporter of Tulane University Athletics, an Emeritus member of Fore!Kids Foundation through 2008 in the New Orleans area. A dedicated duck hunter, an avid golfer who played in "rain, sleet, snow, or whatever", Dr. Brent served over the years as tournament physician of many major professional golf tournaments in New Orleans.
