LEXINGTON — Joseph Edgar Paxton Sr., 67, of Lexington died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at his home. Born Sept. 14, 1944, in Lexington, he was a son of the late Eugene Wilson Paxton Sr. and Catherine Parrent Paxton.

He was a member of Manly Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as usher, deacon, assistant Sunday school teacher, trustee and chairman of the building and grounds. He retired after 35 years as a fiscal officer for the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission in Staunton.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Patsy Swisher Paxton, and two children, Christie Huger (Fred) of Fairfield and Joey Paxton (Cheree) of Lexington; a brother, Eugene Paxton of Lexington; a sister, Kitty Fischer (Ronald) of Chester; sisters-in-law, Brenda Rhodenizer (Gene) of Charlottesville, Fontanne Bostic of Lexington and Sharon Peebles (Charles) of Glasgow; brother-in-law, Harry Swisher (Penni) of Fishersville; four grandchildren, Anderson, Everette and Isabelle Huger and Cohen Paxton; faithful companion, Maggie Mae; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Manly Memorial Baptist Church, with Drs. J. Michael Wilkins and Thomas Harvey and the Rev. Benjamin W. Dowling III officiating. Burial will follow in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Manly Memorial Baptist Church, 202 S. Main St., Lexington, VA 24450.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington.
