Former ABC Employee Enjoyed Raising Quarter Horses
Eugene (Gene) Wilson Paxton Jr. of Lexington, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at the age of 83.

Gene began working in his father's bakery at a young age.

He attended Washington and Lee College before going to work with the Virginia Alcohol and Beverage Control Board for 35 years. He also worked as a newspaper carrier for the Washington Post.

Gene enjoyed raising and watching roadster ponies and Quarter Horses and loved to go to the Virginia Horse Center. He spent many years as a 4-H Volunteer Leader.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Marie Hall Paxton; a sister, Catherine Paxton Fischer; and a brother, Joseph (Eddie) Paxton.

He is survived by his three children, Eugene W. Paxton III (Ariadne) of Rockbridge Baths, Robert Paxton (Rebecca) of Madison, and Ida Kay Paxton Manspile (Eric). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery with Dr. Michael Wilkins officiating.
