Hazel was the oldest of eight children born to William Dollase and his wife Martha Tripke. At the age of 11, Hazel developed appendicitis. At this time, the procedure for removing the appendix was still relatively new and a surgeon had to be found to perform the procedure. By the time he arrived it was too late. She died as a result of the infection. Funeral was from St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Watertown on June 9
