CHARLOTTE BLUMENSTEIN
July 17, 1923 - Sept. 12, 2011

SALEM - Charlotte was born the daughter of Otto and Belva Macy in Brighton, Iowa and the 7th of 8 children. At the age of 12 she moved to Salem, OR where she met Robert Jr. in her Sophomore year and married after they graduated. Later they settled in Niagara, Oregon. Charlotte worked 26 years for the US Forest Service and was known for her talent of being able to competently estimate board feet in a standing tree, for talking lost people out of the wilderness via radio, and enjoyed applying her botanical knowledge in what she referred to as "bog slogging". She was an avid bird watcher and trail hiker. She loved to sing; she laughed a lot, enjoyed telling stories of her childhood and played the piano and organ.

She is survived by her 7 children; Barbara Blumenstein, Carol Olson, Bruce Blumenstein, Frances Blumenstein, Russell Blumenstein, John Blumenstein, Amy Collen, and a legacy of beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a large extended family.

A memorial gathering will be held Sat., Oct. 15, at 11am at Scio Baptist Church in Scio, Oregon. Donations in her memory to any organization that fights dementia is welcomed.
