" James Hooper was baptised at Second Church, Berwick, York County, Maine, the son of Samuel and Peggy (Guptill) Hooper (Anderson, Records of the First and Second Churches of Berwick, Maine, p. 230). He removed to Shapleigh, York, Maine in the early 1790s. He married Mary Emery in Shapleigh on 21 Jan 1793 (Shapleigh Town Records). James Hooper joined his Emery in-laws in removing to Groton before 1800, when they appear on the 1800 Census. "
