Funeral service for Scotty Ambrose, 92, of Elgin, Oklahoma, will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the Elgin United Methodist Church with Reverend Coy Remer and Pastor Larry Thoma, officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Elgin Cemetery under the direction of the Elgin Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family will greet friends Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Elgin Funeral Home.

Scott “Scotty” Aubrey Ambrose was born June 14, 1922 in Cyril, Oklahoma to Clem and Clemmie (Hanks) Ambrose. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1940 and went to work on the family farm. He served his country in the United States Army from August 26, 1943 until January 7, 1946. Scotty was a Staff Sergeant in the 160th Infantry where he served in World War II in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 bronze service stars, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st award, Expert Infantryman Badge, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII. After being honorably discharged, he farmed for 1 ½ years and then went to work in the oil fields for 10 years. Scotty went to Barber College and opened Scotty’s Barber Shop on December 13, 1958 until he retired on December 13, 1991 after 33 years in Elgin. On February 26, 1966, Scotty married Lucille (Miller) Wolcott. In that union he gained a son, Larry R. Wolcott and a daughter, Janice (Wolcott) Glover. After retiring, Scotty went to work for Larry Glover Cattle Company until 2005 where he enjoyed working cattle, being able to be outside, and visiting with everyone at the barn. Scotty was a member of the Elgin United Methodist Church, Commander American Legion Post #206, Commander VFW #8580, Elgin Booster Club, and the Lion’s Club where he served as President. Scotty and Lucille supported all the Elgin Ball teams. They were presented with a plaque for being special sports fans. He also supported the Elgin FFA and would attend the trips to Texhoma at the end of the school year. At the age of 88, Scotty was honored to be able to travel to Washington D.C. on the Oklahoma Honor Flight with his son Larry and the other World War II Servicemen. He loved to fish, play dominoes and checkers, and gardening. Scotty raised corn and watermelons and liked giving them to his friends and family. He loved kids and was a very special Papa Scotty to all of his grandchildren and the best father anyone could ever have. He will be dearly missed!
He is survived by his son, Larry R Wolcott and his wife Gail of Elgin; his daughter, Janice Glover and her husband Larry of Elgin; 3 grandchildren: Stacy Dawn Tucker and her husband Robert, Larry Scott Wolcott and his wife Lea Ann, and Kay Lynn Glover, all of Elgin; 6 great grandchildren: Garrett Wayne Tucker, Aubrie Grace Tucker, Landon Blake Rodenberger, Hayden Elaine Wolcott, Amberlea White, and Bralea White, all of Elgin; 1 brother in law, Harvey Miller and his wife Donna, of Elgin; 1 sister in law, Zelma Ambrose of Lawton; and special nephews, nieces, and a host of other family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Ambrose; his parents, Clem and Clemmie Ambrose, 4 brothers: Clem Leroy Ambrose Jr., Arthur Denton Ambrose, Henry Hanks Ambrose, and Charley M. Ambrose; and 1 sister, Robbie Marie Fesler.
