James Alfred Rogers, son of Earl G. and Clara Ziegler Rogers, was born March 6, 1906, at Mitchell, South Dakota, and died at the Veteran hospital in Des Moines, August 6, 1947.

His early life was spent on a ranch near Phillip, South Dakota, where he lived until 1941. For a short time he resided at Austin, Minnesota, until he enlisted in the army air corps in October, 1942, and served in the South Pacific, India, and China , many months until his discharge4 in December, 1945, when he came to Knoxville to live.

On December 23, 1946, the deceased was united in marriage to Ruth Miller, of Knoxville.

The deceased was a member of the Baty-Tucker post of the American Legion and the John Myers post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he also held the office of senior vice-commander.

In 1942 Mr. Rogers was baptized in the church of Christ at Austin, Minnesota, and had attended First Methodist church in Knoxville until his health failed him.

The deceased was preceded in death by his mother and infant brother in November, 1917, and by a step-brother, Joseph Conner, who was killed in action in France, September 3. 1944.

Mr. Rogers is survived by his widow, father and step-mother and his grandmothers, Mrs. Celia Loobey, all of Knoxville; three sisters, Mrs. Orpha Peterson and Mrs. Eva Means, of Brooklyn, and Mrs. Lucille Robbins, of Rapid City, South Dakota; a step-sister, Mrs. Esther Resner, of Mankato, Minnesota; and a brother Joseph Rogers, of Marengo.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Paul M. Hann from First Methodist church at 3 o'clock, Saturday Afternoon. burial in Graceland cemetery, where full military honors were accorded their deceased comrade by members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
