Mrs. Orpha P. Peterson, 92, of Laguna Hills, California, a former resident of Brooklyn, died June 8, 2001, at Beverly Manor Nursing Home, Laguna Hills, CA following a long illness.
Memorial services Mrs. Peterson will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, July 7, 2001, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, IA. Rev. Daniel Ogata will officiate with Eastern Star Rites conducted by Holly Chapter #477 OES of Malcom. Private burial of the cremains will follow in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.
Orpha Pauline Rogers Peterson, daughter of Earl and Clara Rogers, was born March 20, 1909, in Kodak, South Dakota. She graduated from high school in Rapids City, South Dakota.
She married Wallace (Pete) Peterson April 10, 1930, and one daughter Barbara was born to the couple. They livid in Rapid City till 1942 at which time they moved to Knoxville, Iowa. In 1945 they moved to Brooklyn, Iowa and ran the Jack Spratt grocery store until 1950. Orpha then worked for the TIP Rural Electric retiring 1974.
She moved to Orange, California in 1977 to be near her daughter, Barbara and Gene Smith and family.
Orpha entered a board and care home in 1990 because of failing health and entered the nursing home September 1997.
Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine of Newton.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara and son-in-law Gene Smith of Orange, California; her four grandchildren, Tom Smith of Orange, CA, Ken and Jayne Smith, of Norco, CA, Jeff and Cathy Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada and Dianne Smith of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and eight grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Jim and Joe Rogers, and two sisters, Eva Means and Lucille Robbins.
