Henry Bliesman; Male; White; Burial: 1 Dec 1925 Oakland Cem Denison, Ia.; Death: 29 Nov 1925 Denison, Crawford Co., Ia.; Age: 78; Birth: 1 Jan 1847 Germany; Occ: Farmer
Married; Father: Jurgen Bliesman bp: Germany;

Schleswig Leader Oct 19, 1972 pg 4:
Henry Bliesman was one of the early grocery peddlers that drove from farm to farm with merchandise. After so long, Mr. Bliesmann gave up his sales route and opened a general store on his farm place, 3 miles north and a mile east of Schleswig, where Walter Bliesmann now lives.
The store was made of lumber and was 20 feet wide and 32 feet long. Mr. Bliesmann stocked groceries, dry goods, hardware, clothing, shoes and many other products. He hauled the supplies with a team and wagon from Denison. The round trip took an entire day and was made in all types of weather. On his trips to town, he took along the cream and eggs which he had received from his customers in exchange for merchandise. Since money was very scarce, the practice of bartering was common on the frontier. Mr. Bliesmann remained in business until 1895, at which time he disposed of the store. He retired from farming in 1910 and moved to Denison, where in the same year his eldest son Henry established the Bliesmann Land Co., which today goes by the name of Bliesman Real Estate.
Henry Bliesmann was born in the island town of Flansin, near Denmark, on Jan. 21, 1847, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1863. He worked on a farm in Scott county until 1880 and then made his way westward to Otter Creek township. He was married to Miss Anna Fundermann of Grant township in 1882, and to this union were born seven sons: Henry, John, William, Carl, Herman, Otto and Louie. Mr. Bliesmann passed away in Denison in March 1928 [1925], at the age of 79 [78] years.
