Funeral services for John Bliesmann, 87, were held Friday morning, April 12, 1974, at 10:30 am at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig with Rev R J Ratzlaff officiating. Miss Becky Ratzlaff was the organist and accompanied Mrs. Ernie Grell and Mrs Gunnar Johnson as they sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross".
John Jurgen Bliesmann was bon to Henry Bliesmann and his Anna nee Funderman on Feb. 14, 1887 in Crawford county, Iowa.
He farmed north of Schleswig until moving to Denison about 12 years ago. He married Emma Kruse on July 16, 1913. She passed away on April 3, 1930. to this union was born one son, Walter. John then married Elizabeth Rock, Nov 20, 1962 in Denison. She passed away Dec 13, 1972.
He was baptized and confirmed a Christian in 1930 and was a member of the United Church of Christ since then.
John died Tuesday, April 9, 1974, at the Eventide Lutheran Home for the Aged Denison, where he had made his home since 1971.
He was preceded in death by his wives and five brothers.
Besides his son, Walter, and daughter-in-law, Velma Bliesmann, he is survived by two grandchildren, Christine and Michael Bliesmann, one brother Otto of Oskaloosa and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were: Louis Aldag Raymond Baker, Lee Bliesman, Herbert Riessen, Roger Baker and Tedd Bliesman. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery.
