Freda was born July 29, 1932 in Pontiac, Mo. to Otis and Eva Herd. She spent her early years and received her education in Missouri. On Dec. 4, 1950, Freda and Arlie Cockrum were married in Harrison, Ark. In 1951, they moved to Avenal, Calif., where they owned and operated a shoe repair business. In 1963, the Cockrum family moved to Sunnyside, where they owned and operated Arlie's Shoe Repair.
Survivors two sons and two daughters.
Freda waas preceded in death by her husband, Arlie in 1989, one brother , Troy Herd; her parents, Otis and Eva, and one sister, Alta Snearly.
