The funeral for Alice Grace Hanson will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at the First Baptist Church, 304 4th St. N.W., in Kasson, with Pastor Dale Phelps officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.

Mrs. Hanson of Hayfield, formerly of Kasson, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at Field Crest Care Center, where she had been a resident for nine years.

She was born June 11, 1918, in Goodhue County, to George and Anna (Eastlee) Skogen. After high school graduation, she attended Mankato Business College and later worked for Dr. Logan in Rochester as their family cook. She married Richard L. Hanson on April 27, 1940. They worked on Mayowood Farms in rural Rochester until 1946, then farmed in rural Mantorville until 1976 when they moved into Kasson.

Alice loved to read books, sew for her children when they were growing up and for her grandchildren. She made special birthday cakes for her grandchildren. She loved birds, enjoyed watching them and knew the songs of many birds. Her passion was cooking and she was an outstanding cook. She enjoyed cooking for her family and others.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly A. Hanson of Brooklyn Center and Shirley R. (Duane) Horning of Mantorville; four grandchildren, Dale (Bobbie) Horning of Ostrander, Randy Horning of Forest, Va., Mark Horning of Mantorville and Ruth Ann (John) Cyphers of Mantorville; six great-grandchildren, Travis Horning of Rochester, Trent (Brandice) Horning of Rochester, Mandy and Marissa Horning of Ostrander, Mariah and Elijah Cyphers of Mantorville; and her sister, Sybel Haugen of Kasson.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997; sisters, Evelyn, Norma and Ethel; and brother, Gerald.

Friends may call one hour before the service at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
