Athalia Rigdon, the eldest child of Sidney Rigdon and Phebe Brooks, b. Aug. 1821 (re: 1900 census enumeration) prob. at Warren, OH. She d. in 1906 at Friendship, NY. Her name is written only as "Athalia" without a middle initial in her marriage record, without a middle initial in every bio in which she is included and in every federal census in which she appears. The addition of the initial "P" on her gravestone is an error for "R" - for her maiden name Rigdon.

On Nov. 5, 1837 at Kirtland, Geauga County, OH, Athalia's intended husband filed application for a marriage license, in which she is stated to have been "only 14 years of age." The application includes the written statement "that the father & mother of said Athalia, Sidney Rigdon & his wife, have given their full and free consent to said marriage." Athalia Rigdon and George Washington Robinson married of record Nov. 13, 1837 (by Frederick G. Williams, JP) at Kirtland, OH.

Multiple historical writings, to include by descendants of the Sidney Rigdon family, claim that Athalia's sister Nancy, b. Dec. 8, 1822 and pursued after 1840 by Joseph Smith the Mormon prophet for a polygamy marriage, was the eldest dau. of the Rigdon family. However, the claim that Nancy was the eldest dau. is a misinterpretation of those historical records. As Nancy's elder sister Athalia was already married Nancy was at the time the eldest unmarried dau. of the Rigdon family. Nancy m. in 1846 at Pittsburg, Penn., Robert Ellis, Jr. as her only husband.

In the June 1900 census, as a widow residing with the family of her son-in-law Sheridan McArthur Norton, Athalia credited herself with having given birth to 12 children, but only four were then living. From the 1850 census forward, only four named children are enumerated in her family and are outlined in their father's memorial.
