Mrs. Sylvia ApRoberts died at her home in this city at an early hour Saturday, May 6th after a decline in health of more than a years duration, the last few weeks of which she was confined in bed. The funeral took place at the family residence yesterday afternoon, Rev. T.C. Eglin, conducting the services. Burial in Greenwood cemetery.
Sylvia Brownell, daughter of Edwin and Delilah Bates Brownell was born in Essex, Vt. March 21, 1842. The family moved to Garden Prairie, Vt. in the fall of 1845 and to the village of Greenwood, now known as River Falls in the fall of 1854. The town then numbered only a few families. On Nov. 24, 1862 she married Gwilym Ione ApRoberts. His death occurred on Sept., 1903. He had been in business for many years in this city and was respected by all who knew him. to them were born nine children, six of which survive them. Her school days were largely spent in the Academy of this city under Dr. Wilcox. She was a sister of the late Mrs. Whitehead of this city and the late Mrs.Giles M. Bennett who was __ a resident of Beldenville. As a teacher in the South Fork district and Glass Valley, she taught many of the men and women now residing in this locality.
The deceased has left tender memories that will never fade in the hearts and minds of her family, her devotion, constancy, and great mother love will appear in brighter colors as the years go by giving emphasis to the sentiment "Over my heart in the years that have flow, on love like a mother love ever has shown. No other worship abides and endures, faithful unselfish and patient like yours."
She loved her home, and her friends and the beautiful in nature, especially flowers. She gave her best self to these rather than to social distinctions.
The writer, during a friendship of 30 years never heard her speak a harsh word. It was not because the atmosphere in which she lived was always rose tinted, for sickness, death, and sorrow entered her life several times during the period of sickness in her family, she was always on duty, keeping constant vigil over her loved ones. She loved her friends and her friends loved her.
The beautiful floral offerings were but fitting tribute to one who loved them to one whom they loved.
When the ___ing sky in the west indicated the approaching sunset, she looked not toward a night of gloom, but dawning of an ever brightening and eternal day.
If a great mother love, fidelity to the best things in life, constancy in friendship, helpfulness to those who needed, and charity toward all are qualifications, Mother Ap Roberts had an abundant entrance into the "Joy of her Lord". River Falls Journal 5-11-1916
