Daughter of Dr. Robert H. and Elizabeth Wright Shaffer, wife of Edward Wade Mullins.

LYNCHBURG - Mrs. Mattie Shaffer Mullins, 80, widow of Edward W. Mullins of Marion, died at Lynchburg this afternoon after a brief illness.

Mrs. Mullins was the daughter of Dr. Robert Shaffer and Mrs. Elizabeth Wright Shaffer. She was born at Madison, Fla., February 5, 1957. Her father, who was a surgeon in the Confederate army, died when she was quite young. Her mother came with her and her sister to make their home at Marion, where the Shaffer family of Charleston had refugeed during the war. It was there that she married Edward W. Mullins. She spent most of her life at Marion.

For the last four years she had lived at Lynchburg. She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal church.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Walton J. McLeod and Miss Marie Mullins of Lynchburg; three grandsons, Stephen G. Miles, Jr. of Marion, E. Mullins McLeod of Columbia and Walton J. McLeod, Jr. of Walterboro; three great grandchildren, Stephen G. Miles, 3rd, Sarah Nell Miles of Marion and Walton J. McLeod, 3rd, of Walterboro.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rose Hill Cemetery at Marion at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon. The Rev. T. S. Tisdale, rector of the Church of the Advent, will officiate.
