Daughter of Robert H. and Elizabeth Wright Schaffer Schaffer.

MARION - The news of the death of Miss Minnie Shaffer which occurred at her home on Wilcox Avenue this morning has caused widespread sorrow throughout Marion which had been her home since early childhood, and where she could claim as friends all who knew her. She had been ill several weeks but only those nearest to her realized how serious her illness was.

The younger daughter of Dr. Robert H. Shaffer and Elizabeth Wright Shaffer, she was born in Madison, Florida April 16, 1860. Her father, who was a surgeon in the Confederate Army, died when she was quite young, and her mother came with her, and her sister, to make their home in Marion where the Shaffer family of Charleston had refugeed during the war and where they afterward stayed to become some of its most valued citizens.

After the death of her mother she made her home with her aunt Decima Hays Shaffer and "Vida Marie", their lovely home on Wilcox Avenue, was often the center of a gracious hospitality.

Miss Shaffer possessed a voice of exceptional beauty and sweetness and often contributed to the pleasure of her friends by her singing in the choirs of different churches in Marion.

She is survived by one sister Mrs. Mattie Shaffer Mullins of Lynchburg and Mrs. James Mitchell of Stark, Florida, three grand-nephews survive, Stephen Miles of Marion, Walton McLeod of Walterboro and Mullins McLeod of Columbia; and one grand-niece, Miss Marie Mitchell of Stark, Florida.

Funeral services will be conducted at the home on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock, the Rev Tisdale, rector of The Church of the Advent, officiating, and interment will follow in the Shaffer plot in the Methodist church cemetery.
