Wayne W. Whitney, age 91 of De Soto, died Sunday, June 1, 2003 at the Vernon Manor in Viroqua.

He was born June 16, 1911 in De Soto to Charles and Rose (Henderson) Whitney. He lived most of his life in the De Soto area. In his lifetime he held several jobs including farming, working for the Burlington Railroad and the De Soto Sawmill. His favorite job was being a cowboy in Montana for four years. Before entering the Vernon Manor, Wayne lived with his niece, Marian Whitney in De Soto.

Wayne is survived by two brothers, Adrian Whitney of Waco, Texas and Howard Munyon of Elmwood, Illinois; a sister, Mary (Harry) Fox of Lansing, Iowa; 18 nieces and nephews; 40 great-nieces and nephews; and 38 great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herschel and Robert Whitney; two sisters, Iona Wyburn and Geraldine Bradley; four nephews; two nieces and three great-nieces.

A memorial service for Wayne will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2003 in the New Hope United Methodist Church at Red Mound. The Rev. Jan Meyer will officiate with burial in the De Soto Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 after 10 a.m. Memorials may be given to the Back Yard Project at Vernon Manor or New Hope United Methodist Church. The Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua and De Soto is assisting the family with arrangements.
