Baswell, Joseph Fisher, 71, Steele Rt. 1, died in a local hospital yesterday 8:45 a.m. after several days illness.
Survivors, wife, Mrs. Ophelia Malone Baswell;daughters, Mrs. Mildred Payne, Gadsden, Mrs. Julia McDaniel and Mrs Lorene Bearden, Ashville;sons, Johnny and Jack Baswell, Ashville, Lewin Baswell, Lawton, Okla., Fred Baswell, Owens Cross Roads;sisters, Mrs. Olivia McNeal, Huntsville, Mrs Emma Dodd, Ashville, Mrs. Geneva Hopkins, Birmingham; brothers, Walter, Homer,and Lovist Baswell, all of Ashville; 21 grandchildren;one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at Hopewell Baptist Church in Ashville tomorrow 2:30 p.m. with Revs. George Williams and L.C. Calhoun officiating. Burial in Hopewell Cemetery.
Active pallbearers, Arthur Lonnergan, Ray Payne, Wayne Dodd, Terry Stewart, Joe Stewart, John Stewart. Honorary pallbearers all personal friends.
Mr. Baswell was a lifelong resident of St. Clair County. He was member of the Baptist Church. He was employed with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 22 years prior to his retirement.
The body will remain at Collier-Butler Parlors and will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.
