Henry Bridges, esquire, of Tangley, Oxfordshire, died testate with a will dated October 16, 1582, which was proved June 23, 1587 [P.C.C. 34 Spencer] by his widow Anne. Saying that 'God has endowed me with an honest & loving wife' he gave her during her lifetime his house at Keynsham, which was constructed with stone from the dissolved Keynsham Abbey, as well as his lands at Eastover and Westover and his farm at Stockwell in Somerset. In addition to these lands he was lord of Chudleigh manor in Devon. His son and heir was under the age of 21 and he left his two daughters £700 each towards their marriage portions. The Earl of Leicester wrote to Lord Burghley on April 14, 1587 from Bath, Somerset, stating 'A servant of his, one Henry Bridges of Tangley, co. Oxon, in this last night departed, prays that the mother may have the wardship of the son (now the Queen's ward).'

By his wife Anne Hungerford, Henry Bridges was the father of a son Thomas, and two daughters, Eleanor and Margaret.
