An explosion and fire claimed the life of Rev. Ray F. Jaynes, 47, RR 1, Daleville, early Sunday morning. The Jaynes family had just returned from a three-week trip to Florida and noticed gasoline fumes in the garage. The minister and his son, Jesse, 18, Kokomo, decided to move a car parked in the garage outside, but before the garage door could be opened, the fuel oil furnace came on and the explosion followed.

Rev. Jaynes was born in Scott County, Tenn., but moved here 30 years ago. For the past 17 years he had been employed by Muncie Water Works Co. He was a member of the 26th Street Saint Apoltolic Pentecostal Church of New Castle.

Survivors include his wife and son (Jesse), and a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Paschall, RR 1, Daleville; another son, Jim Jaynes, Muncie; his mother, Mrs. Sadie Barlow, Muncie; three sisters, Mrs. Hettie Lankford, Mrs. Ophie Kimbrell and Mrs. Nola Mote, all of Muncie; three brothers, Robert Jaynes, Muncie, and Roy and Jesse Jaynes, both of San Diego, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday a the 26th Street Saint Apostolic Pentecostal Church, New Castle, with Rev. Berchett Howard officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Meeks Mortuary after 10 a.m. Tuesday or at the church one-half hour before services.
