1986: HETTIE LANKFORD, 82: Hettie Lankford, 82, formerly of 403 E. Centennial Ave. an more recently a resident of Middletown Gardens, died Saturday in Woodland Nursing Home. She was born in Fentress County, Tenn., spent her early years there and came to Muncie as a child. She attended Longfellow School. Mrs. Lankford worked at Ball Stores before her retirement and earlier worked at Butterfield Canning Co. in Muncie and Anaconda Wire and Cable Co. in Anderson. She was a member of the Parkview Apostolic Church. She was the widow of Welby Lankford, who died in 1979. Surviving are four daughter, Roxie Hawkins, Muncie, Hazel Evans, St. Petersburg, Fla., Lola Mae Haskins, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Jeanie Regenhadt, Clovis, N.M.; three sons, John Edward, Muncie, Donald, Selma, and Michael, Rossville, Ga.; two sisters, Nola Mote, Columbus, Ga., and Opha Miller, San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Jessie Jaynes, also of San Diego, Calif.; 60 grandchildren; 54 great-granchildren, and two great-great-granchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Parkview Apostolic Church, with Pastor Richard Martin officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Meeks Mortuary or an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
