Waynesville - Mary Ruth Gunter Wyatt, 88, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at her residence.
Born on March 22, 1916, in Stevenson, Ala., she was the daughter of the late James Rufus and Rebecca Gunter.
She was a member of Hyatt Creek Freewill Baptist Church and worked in the Waynewood Mattress Factory for many years as a seamstress.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John David Wyatt Sr., who passed away in 1986; four sisters, Sallie Esslinger, Annie Mae Green, Bertha Cunningham and Lassie Quinn; and three brothers, James, Jackie and Bobbie Gunter.
Surviving are two daughters, Doris (Ralph) McCracken of Crabtree and Peggy (Dwight) Rich of Maggie Valley; one son, John David Wyatt Jr. and his wife, Frances, of Waynesville; four brothers, Jess Ray Gunter of Eustis, Fla. and Joe, John and David Gunter, all of Union County, S.C. ; four sisters, Lena Green of Waynesville and Lucy Clark, Peggy Vaughn and Susan Ward, all of Union County, S.C.; six grandchildren, Claudia Norton, Greg McCracken, Trey Wyatt, Brian Wyatt, Chris Rich and Courtney Presnell; and five great-grand children, Seth, Josie, Olivia, Stahle and Mia. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive her.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Hyatt Creek Freewill Baptist Church. with the Revs. Larry Coates and J.B. Rhinehart officiating and special music by Crystal Coates. Pallbearers will be Chris Rich, Greg McCracken, Brian Wyatt, Trey Wyatt, Adrian Presnell and Rod Norton. Burial will be in Hyatt Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Hyatt Creek Freewill Baptist Church Fund in care of Debbie Mintz, P.O. Box 4, Hazelwood, NC 28785.
