U.S. Congressman. He served as an apprenticeship of the printer’s trade, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1817 and commenced to practice law in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives (1829-32) and elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses, serving (1833-37). In 1839, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-sixth Congress, serving until 1841. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was elected president judge of the sixth judicial district in 1851 and served until his death at age 65.
