Sam Howard of Mokane Dies; Had Lived In Callaway County For Eighteen Years.

Samuel Sylvester Howard, 80, died Wednesday morning, July 8, 1947, at his home in Mokane, after an illness of eight years. Cause of death was documented as Malignancy, Carcinoma of the Left Side of Face, Throat and Jaw.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at Middle River Church and burial will be in the church cemetary.

Sam was born August 26, 1866, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Ann (Yates) Howard. He was married to Alice Emma Lee and she survives of the home.

Sam moved to Missouri when a boy. At one time he operated a general shop in Mexico, then went to St. Louis where he was a building supervisor for the General American Insurance Company. Eighteen years ago he and Mrs. Howard moved to Callaway County where they lived on a farm near Mokane, until a few months ago when they moved into the town.

Surviving are Mrs. Howard, a son, Fred Howard of San Francisco, California, three daughters, Mrs. E. Browning of San Francesco, California, Mrs. A.J. Stein of St. Louis and Mrs. Ewing Hart of Fulton, two brothers, Henry Howard of Tebbetts and Jack Howard of Van Nuys, California.

Samuel Sylvester Howard, 80, of Mokane, died at 3:15am on July 2, 1947 at his home of eighteen years.

Dr. W.H. Williamson, of Mokane, pronounced death caused by Carcinoma of the Throat, Left Side of Face and Jaw due to Malignancy. The informant was Mrs. S.S. Howard, spouse of the deceased, of Mokane.

Mr. Howard was born August 26, 1866, in Kansas City, the son of Joseph and Ann (Yates) Howard. He was united in marriage to Alice Emma Lee and she survives him. Mr. Howard was a farmer.

Arrangements were under the care of Glen Y. Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton. Burial was in the Mokane Cemetery.
