Married Nancy Jackson, daughter of Thomas, 29 May 1827 in Gallatin Co, KY

Federal Census, US Federal Census Mortality Schedule Index, Ancestry.Com, David L. Hineman Jul 1850 Fountain, IN Age: 52 Gender: M State of Birth: OH ID#: MRT197_150413 Occupation: Cooper Cause of Death: Cong Fever [note the ancestry.com transcription has the death year as 1850, but on the actual record it's 1849]

Age listed in death record is questionable. There is only one young male listed in the 1800 Herkimer, NY census for his father, Lewis, when there should have been two. (Arnold and David). That is, if his age given on the death record is correct (it should have been 1797/8.). It seems likely that this was an error.

There isn't a David Hinman in Switzerland County or Fountain County, IN in 1830 or 1840. But the age ranges listed in the HH of a "Lewis Hinman" on the 1840 Switzerland, IN is remarkable when compared to the ages of David L. Hinman's children that were born by that time. Only one young male in HH does not seem to match, but he could have died before 1850. As a note: there are no other Lewis Hinmans listed in prior or subsequent census records or other records. In 1840 he's listed next to the James Calkins family. Mary Polly Hinman was married to James Calkins.

Males
5-9 1831-1835 Andrew Hinman b. 1835
5-9 1831-1835 ?
10-14 1826-1830 Lewis G. Hinman b. 1828
30-39 1801-1810 David [Lewis] Hinman b. 1801-1810 [according to this analysis]
Females
under 5 1836-1840 Olive Hinman b. 1836
10-14 1826-1830 Rebecca Hinman b. 1830
30-39 1801-1810 Nancy Hinman b. 1805

As you can see the ages match up perfectly. The exception is the age range of the adult male which is in the 1801-1810 age range, which we would expect to be in the 1798 age range because of the death record. But if the death record for David is incorrect [as suspected] it matches very well. It also coincides with the 1800 NY census which doesn't list two sons in the latter age range.

The 1840 Census record for Lewis Hinman also indicates that the oldest child in the HH was born in the 1826-1830 age range. David and Nancy's oldest son, Lewis, was born about 1828 according to later census records. This fits David and Nancy's marriage date of 1827. Also possible that David's middle initial "L" stands for Lewis.
