Norway Tidings "......Lewis Hinman was drowned about the year 1807. He, with several of his townsmen, including Jared Smith had been fishing on West Canada Creek and coming downstream to where Black Creek intersects, the party prepared to swim across; and all had done so except Lewis, who was taken with cramps in the stream and sank before assistance could be rendered. His body was recovered and brought home; a sad ending to a fishing excursion. His widow afterwards married Andrew Hinman. The family before 1810 went west stopping in Hamilton Co, Ohio for a time, but finally located in Switzerland Co, eastern Indiana, where some of their descendants still live. Arnold, a son of Lewis was an intelligent man and a fine penman, as some old letters in our possession prove. Triphena wife of Lewis and Andrew Hinman died in 1838....."

It states that Capt David Hinman "...came to Norway and located a short distance northerly of Norway Corners on the farm recently owned by Luke Dubois. The Sulphur Spring brook ran across his farm and on the little stream, now often nearly dry. It says the sawmill he built was also in this area."

In 1824 Arnold Hinman sold the Hinman land in Norway, Herkimer, NY to Pardon Tillinghast. It appears that after Pardon died in 1854 the land was passed on to his daughter Sarah and her husband David Dubois and they in turn passed it on to their son Luke Dubois.
