Dean W. Barnett, 88, of White Station, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, in VNA Hospice, Butler. Born Aug. 22, 1923, in Dayton, he was a son of the late Clark and Mable C. (Kennedy) Barnett. Dean lived in White Station all of his life working for various coal mines in the area. He retired in 1985 from the R & P Coal Company, Emily mine in Shelocta where he worked as a cleaning plant operator and was a proud member of UMWA Local 1412. He enlisted in the Army, was the recipient of a Purple Heart for his service in the African/European campaign during World War II and was a member of the Saltsburg American Legion Post 57. After his retirement, Dean enjoyed spending time with his wife, hunting, fishing and watching western movies. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Marie (Ardery) Barnett, Oct. 22, 1999; four brothers, Clarence, Dale, Wellington and Clifford Barnett; and four sisters, Lottie Troutman, Bernadine Wilmouth, LaVerne Searles and Leona Powell. Survivors include his two younger brothers, Harold Barnett, of Mansfield, Ohio, and Gerald Barnett, of Lucerne Mines; daughter, Ida Marie (Joseph) Hutchinson, of New Florence; son, Al (Sharon) Barnett, of Lower Burrell; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 701 Salt St., Saltsburg. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald Durika officiating. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations in Dean's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E-201, Pittsburgh PA 15222; or to the American Diabetes Association, Pittsburgh PA Office, 300 Penn Circle Blvd., Suite 602, Pittsburgh PA 15235.
