Luetta Powell, 75, a former Idaho Falls cafe cook, died June 24, 1987, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of Idaho Falls after a lingering illness.
She was born May 4, 1912, at Idaho Falls, to Ora E. and Anna Cecelia Shearer Fudge. She attended local schools. She worked as a cook and housekeeper at Wood's Livestock at Spencer, then worked as a cook in various Idaho Falls cafes.
She was married to Louis Butler in 1930 at Idaho Falls and they were later divorced. In the 1940s, she operated the Legion Cafe and the Rasmussen Cafe, both in Dubois. In 1953, she became a cook for the Falconberry Ranch on Loon Creek in Salmon River country.
She was married to Ernest F. Powell March 2, 1956, at Chicago, and they made their home in Idaho Falls. She started Luetta's Work Basket in Idaho Falls where she made leather goods and taught leathercraft. She sold the shop in 1960. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of Idaho Falls; three sons, Roderick Butler and Thomas Powell, both of Idaho Falls, and Randall Rowell of Cedar City, Utah; a daughter, Mrs. Jay (Diana) Linger of Idaho Falls; three brothers, Fred Fudge of Mesa, Ariz., Wayne Fudge of El Segundo, Calif., and Clarence Fudge of Hawthorne, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in Moonlight Chapel of Buck-Sullivan Funeral Home with the Rev. William D. McFarland of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. The family will meet friends Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery.
