The Democratic Advocate, November 19, 1898, page 3: On Tuesday morning last, Mrs. Effie Newcomer, wife of Edward A. Newcomer, died near this place, aged 18 years. She was a daughter of David E. Myers, of Uniontown district. She married to Mr. Newcomer about three months ago, when it was manifest that the bridal would soon be followed by her funeral. After her betrothal to Mr. Newcomer she was attacked with consumption, and failed rapidly. Though dependent upon his labor for a livelihood, the young man insisted upon the fulfillment of the engagement, in order that he light have the melancholy pleasure of ministering to and caring for his hopeless betrothed, upon whom the seal of death was set when she became a bride. Funeral services were held on Thursday at 10 a.m., and the remains were interred at Baust Church, Revs. Craft and Baughman officiating.
