Margaret Jane Cox was the fifth child of nine children born to John Cox II and his wife Elender who migrated to Morgan County, Indiana. The Cox family were Quakers with roots in the Cane Creek Meeting of Snow Camp, Colonial Orange (now Alamance) County, North Carolina. Margaret was originally interred in the Old Shady Grove Cemetery east about 1 mile. She was re-interred in the new Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in about 1890 by her son Dennis Culberson York where she is buried beside him and his wife.

Wife of Andrew Jackson York b. 24 Aug 1799 - d. 14 Mar 1856, who is buried in the York Family Cemetery.
