Maria Soberanes, the daughter of Jose Antonio Soberanes and Eliza "Lulu" Higuera, born in Monterey County, CA and was probably the first child born to this couple. Younger siblings were Agustus, Thomas, Espiro, and younger sister Euleata.

Maria married Santana Alviso in about 1868 and they had at least 11 children. According to Maria in the 1900 Census, Monterey County, Gonzales Township, she had only 3 children still living. Her two sons Henry and Rubio Alviso, both born in the Gonzales, Monterey County, CA area were living with their mother and step father, Antonio Buelna in that 1900 census. Maria and her sons had moved to Madera about 1893 and she married Antonio Buelna there in about 1897.

By 1920 Maria was living at 829 Madera St, Madera, CA with her husband Antonio Buelna where they would live out the rest of their lives. Antonio died in 1922 and was buried at Calvary Cemetery, Madera, CA.

Maria's younger sister Euleata married Joseph Nicolas Buelna

Maria's funeral service was held in the Chapel of R.C.Jay & Son of Madera, Ca. Pall Bearers were Clyde Kester, Larry Lopez, Raymond Luna, George Olivas, Ernest Piscano, and Andy Valenzuela. Her headstone shows her name as Alviso, the name of her children.
