Funeral services for Fannie Chrystele "Brown" Henson, 93, a longtime Atoka resident, were held Saturday, Febrauary 10 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Atoka with Rev. Bill Elkins officiating. Burial was in Green Meadows Cemetery under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service in Atoka. She died Thursday, February 8, 2001 at Atoka Memorial Hospital. Born August 1, 1907 at Stamford, TX, she was the daughter of Hiram Lyles and Sarah Annie WHITE Brown. She attended schools at Stamford, TX and Wetumka, OK. She was named Businesswoman of the Year in 1999, and August 16 was declared Fannie Henson Day in Atoka. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Atoka since 1935, she was also a member of the Golden Jubliees and the Noah Choir. She married James Franklin Henson on August 26, 1923 at Holdenville. He preceded her in death in October 1964. She later married T. V. Thomas who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Henson and her husband, Frank, started Henson's Inc. in 1933. They sold auto parts, hardware, propane, clothing, furniture, appliances and a variety of merchandise. The business has been at their present location since 1943. She also owned the Black Gold Station and Salvage Yard. She was active in the business until October 2000. Preceding her in death in addition to her two husbands, were her parents, Hiram and Sarah Brown; three children Francis Christine Henson, James Curtis Henson and Helen Bernice Henson; seven sisters and one brother. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Meeks and husband Bob, Electra, TX; and Delores Kathleen Barton and husband, Lloyd of Atoka; four grandchildren, David Barton, and Karen Henderson and husband, Ronnie, all of Atoka; Sharon Whitaker and husband, Scott, Grand Prairie, TX; and Steven Wade Wheeler and wife, Carey, Electra, TX; three step grandchildren, Celeste Littlecreek, Stan Meeks and Lori Reyna; once sister-in-law, Helen Brady of Atoka; one brother-in-law Robert Reeves of Stringtown; and a beloved friend, Tonya Barton of Atoka; along with 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
