Emma married Frank A. Gerteisen on Jan 2, 1886 in Muskingum County. Unsure what happened to Frank.
Emma and Joseph A. Miles' marriage in 1890 was noted to be the second marriage for both of them. Joseph, was a coal digger and was the father of eight living children, ages 5-23. His first wife, Anna and their ninth child, passed away in 1888 during childbirth. Joseph and Emma resided in Zanesville, Ohio. Joseph passed away in September 1917.
Emma married for the final time, at age 69 years, to Charles Arthur Deavers, 57 years, on November 21, 1925. Charles, a coal miner, was the father of eight grown children from two previous marriages. She and Charles lived together in Washington, Ohio until his death in December 1934.
When Emma died in 1936 at the age of 80 years, she had been married three times but never had children of her own. She did help raise her step-children from Joseph Miles and they are noted in her obituary as her children with no step-child distinction.
A sad note, her brother, August, at age 72 years, died the day after Emma. The Zanesville Signal reported: "he was run over by a woman driving an automobile. She did not see him lying in the road and ran over his head. He may have suffered a stroke prior to the accident."
Emma's obituary follows:
