Having been born in Wersau, Germany, she was the daughter of Johann Justus Harres and Anna Catherina Mader. She was the first wife of Adam Arras with whom she married on November 9, 1855 in Millstadt, Illinois. They lived on a farm near Waterloo, Illinois and had five children. The two boys died when they were young and are buried at Baum-Salem Cemetery, the three girls married and had families of their own. She now rests at Baum-Salem Cemetery which is very close to where their farm was.
