In the Spring of 1846, Anna's parents and 5 of her siblings journeyed on the Oregon Trail to Fort Hall, Idaho where they changed to the California Trail. Her parents and siblings settled in the area now known as Calistoga, Napa Co., Calif. Anna and Charles elected to remain in Illinois.

Her brother, John Cyrus, married Lovina Graves who was a survivor of the Donner Party tragedy in the Sierra Nevada during the winter of 1846-47. The Graves family were on the Oregon Trail during the same time as the Cyrus family.
John and Lovina raised their family in Calistoga, CA.
