Westerman, Sara Elizabeth Carpenter, 95, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Twinbrook Nursing Home. Sara was born in Shelby County, Kentucky as the first of four children of Hattie and Lisker Carpenter. In 1947, she married Arthur F. Westerman and celebrated with him 53 years of marriage. Sara began her working life at the old Bardstown Transfer Company. She was later the church secretary at Third Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville. She then joined her husband and worked the remainder of her career at Premium Seed and Horticultural Suppy Company. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, sisters Helen Carpenter Swan Funk, Anna Catherine Carpenter Williams Downes, and a brother George Carpenter. She is survived by her son, Robert Westerman (Fran Levy), granddaughters Heather Stewart (Cecil) and Holly Roy (Chris) and grandson Barry Westerman (Sara). She is also survived by five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the wonderful staffs at both Belmont Village and Twinbrook Nursing Home and the care of the Hosparus agency and its volunteers. The visitation for Sara will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2011 at Highlands Family Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. The celebration of her life will be at 11:00 a.m., at St. John United Church of Christ, 637 East Market Street on Saturday, October 1st. Entombment follows at Resthaven Memorial Gardens on Bardstown Road. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be gifts to St. John United Church of Christ or Hosparus.
