Willard Clarence Lee was born November 22, 1881. His father, K. G. Lee, was the sheriff in Norman County. He married Florence Elizabeth Andrist on May 15, 1905. She was the daughter of Frederick and Anna Ginsberg Andrist of Ada, Minnesota. They lived in Ada except for six years when he owned and operated the Twin Valley Times. When he was elected Register of Deeds, they moved back to Ada. Later Willard bought the Norman County Herald from Jason Weatherhead and was editor and publisher of that for some years until he sold it to the Norman County Index. He sold the Twin Valley Paper to Ray Lee, his nephew. At the time of his death, Willard was serving his first term as postmaster in Ada.

Willard and Florence had one daughter, Anna Florence Lee, born in 1908. She married Clarence M. Amundson in 1937.

Willard died on December 6, 1938 in Crookston, Minnesota, at the age of 57. He is buried in the Ada Cemetery in Ada, Minnesota.
