Funeral services for John S. Blain, 80, former mayor of Spring City, will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Spring City Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by Reed H. Allred, bishop.
Friends may call at the family home Friday evening and from 10 a.m. Saturday till time of services. Burial will be in the Spring City Cemetery under direction of Jacobs Mortuary, Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Blain died at his home Thursday morning of a heart ailment.
Mr. Blain was born in Weston, Ida., Dec. 6, 1870, a son of Robert and Jane Slack Blain. He married Sarah E. Zabriskie in Manti, March 4, 1893. This marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. His wife died Oct. 8, 1896, while Mr. Blain was serving an LDS mission in the Southern states. After his return from the mission he was graduated from Brigham Young University in 1900.
On Jan. 3, 1901, he married Lemeline [Emeline] M. Larsen in the Manti LDS Temple. She died July 3, 1944.
In May 1943, in the Manti LDS Temple he married Mrs. Mary G. [Gunderson] F. Christensen, Ephraim. At the time of his death, he and his wife were serving a mission in the Manti LDS Temple.
Mr. Blain had served as Sanpete County recorder, four years as city councilman, and six years as mayor of Spring City. For several years he was principal of Spring City schools and in 1915 was elected a member of the North Sanpete Board of Education and later became clerk of the board, a position he held for 30 years.
He had served as stake superintendent of Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association, as counselor in the Spring City bishopric and assistant in the Sunday school superintendency. In 1918, he was chosen North Sanpete stake clerk and served 28 years in that position. He was a member of BYU Emeritus Club and a high priest in the LDS Church.
Surviving are his widow; three sons and three daughters: Robert L. Blain, Salt Lake City; Rulon L. Blain, Salt Lake City; Arthur Blain, Payson; Mrs. Wallace (Louise) Greaves, Santaquin; Mrs. Henry E. (Ida) Raddals, Orem; Mrs. Arvard (Florence) Aagard, Fountain Green; a foster sister, Mrs. Jane Larsen, Provo; six brothers: Earl, Melvin, Henry and Grover Blain, Clearfield; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
