Mary was a daughter of Col. Robert Lewis and Jane Meriwether. Birth dates for Mary range from 1730 to 1735. She was not mentioned in the 27 Apr 1734 gift of slaves from her father, so the Society is tentatively accepting a date of about 1735. This makes her about 16 when she first married, so an earlier date is certainly possible.

Mary married Samuel Cobbs about 1751; they were the parents of three known children: Robert Lewis, Jane and Judith Cobbs.

Samuel died about 1758 and in Dec 1766 Mary married Waddy Thomson (~1725–1801) in Albemarle County. They were the parents of five known daughters: Ann Lewis, Mary, Mildred, Judith and Susanna.

Mary died in 1813 and is believed to have been buried on the family farm on Ivy's creek in Albemarle County.
TMSI [661]: M128G-Granddaughter of Nicholas Meriwether & Elizabeth (?) Meriwether Browne.
