Brent N. Leavitt, 71, passed away peacefully Monday morning April 4, 2011 surrounded by loved ones in his home after a valiant battle with cancer.
Brent was born Sept 19, 1939 in Afton, the youngest of five children born to Ira and Genevieve Leavitt.
He was raised in Afton, where he graduated from Star Valley High School. It was there he met the love of his life, Annette Allred. They were married in Afton and were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angles LDS Temple. Together they had three wonderful sons; Jeffrey, Joel and Shane.
Brent and Anette lived in the Los Angeles area for 40 years where he made his career with Sav-On, he worked his way from store clerk to store manager and over time managed four different Sav-On stores. He retired from Sav-On at the age of 57. To keep busy, he then worked for a fixture company where he and his cousin Gary Nield, traveled all over the United states installing and changing fixtures for many different companies. Brent and Annette moved to Utah and built their dream home in North Logan in 2004.
Brent loved the mountains, gardening, fishing, hunting and camping, especially with his family. Flying was a hobby he loved. He loved both model and single engine airplanes. Brent loved the Lord, loved The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved serving his fellow men. He served in many callings including; Elders Quorum, ward mission leader, scouting, as councilor to bishops and as bishop of the Hacienda Heights First Ward in California. At the time of his death, he was serving in the North Logan 10th Ward as an advisor to the High Priest group leader and as a home teacher. He loved his callings and the people he served. He was disappointed by circumstances of his illness that required him to end his service in these capacities in the last month of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Genevieve, brothers, Von and Rex Leavitt. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Annette Allred; sons Jeffrey Mark Leavitt, Joel Brent Leavitt (Sandy), and Shane Allred Leavitt (Becky); 11 grandchildren sister, Genell Luthi and brother Kirk Leavitt (Nancy).
The funeral was held April 9, 2011. Interment was in Afton Cemetery.
