Member of Potter Post, G. A. R. and
Former Resident of Sycamore, Died
Last Night at Elgin Funeral
This Wednesday at 2:30 P.
M. at Charter Grove.

John Haines, veteran of the Civil
war, and a former well known resident
of Sycamore for eight years up to two
years ago, passed from this life at Resthaven
Sanitarium, last night, Monday,
Oct. 3, after being confined to his bed
for seven weeks.
John Haines was born Dec. 11, 1842,
at Ashtabula, Ohio. Had he lived until
next month he would have been 85
years of age.
He served three years during the
Civil war and was a member of Potter
Post, G. A. R., of Sycamore. His
wife, Mary B. Haines, preceded him
in death July 18, 1922.
Left to mourn his death are seven
children: Mrs. William Baker, of Virgil,
HI.; Mrs. F. A. Read, Elgin; Mrs.
Clara Eddy, DeKalb; Vernon H. Huntley;
Arthur M., Plato Center; Harry
D., Denver, Colo., and Mrs. H. E. Phillips,
Dyer, Ind. There are also surviving
15 grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1
p. m. from the Norris chapel, Elgin,
and at 2:30 p. m. from the Charter
Grove church, this Wednesday, Bev.
George McClintock, officiating, and the
interment will be in the family lot in
Charter Grove cemetery.
