Jane E. Bechtel Mattingly, 72, of Wakarusa, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at home.

She was born Sept. 3, 1939, in Wakarusa, and was the daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn Wehrly Bechtel. She was a 1957 graduate of Wakarusa High School and attended business college in Elkhart.

In 1970, she married David P. Mattingly, and he survives.

Mrs. Mattingly worked at Exchange State Bank, Wakarusa Tribune, American Legion Post 307 and Raymond's Restaurant, all in Wakarusa.

Surviving with her husband are daughters, Jennifer L. Mattingly of South Bend, Sarah M. Mattingly of Lafayette and Anne P. Mattingly of Wakarusa; and a son, Michael R. Mattingly (wife: Penny) of West Lafayette.

Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Jane is preceded in death in order by her sister, Margaret R. Scherer; mother, Evelyn E. Bechtel; grandfather, Harvey S. Bechtel; and her father, Robert O. Bechtel. Jane was loved by many, enjoyed socializing and was known to always have a wonderful smile that could light up a room and was known by all as, "Aunt Jane."
