In 1860 he was shown residing in Penfield Twp., Lorain County, Ohio, in the household of Luther Winchell, 38 years old, a farmer, born in New York State. Luther's wife, Margaretta, 34, was also born in New York. They had two children: Richard, 5, born in Ohio, and Josephine, 8, born in New York. Unknown what relation they were to Thomas Bunnell unless Thomas was a hired hand. Thomas had a brother, Benjamin F. Bunnell, who also served in Company H and survived his military service.
