Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) - September 26, 2013. Obituary: DeVon Franklin Andrus, 1928 ~ 2013. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away at home on Saturday, September 21, 2013. DeVon was born in Draper, Utah, January 20, 1928 to Benjamin Franklin and Bertha Wright Andrus. He grew up on the family farm where he learned to work hard. Strong in body and spirit he always found time to enjoy sports and participate with musical groups. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1946. DeVon went on to earn a BS, Utah State; MS, Iowa State and PHD from Michigan State. He was employed for 21 years by American Breeders Service, DeForest, Wisconsin. His pioneering work as a statistician was used by the USDA to develop industry-wide standards for calving ease. After retiring from ABS, he worked as Head Nutritionist for Al Safi Dairy in Saudi Arabia where he was responsible for 22,500 dairy cows, a challenge he greatly enjoyed. DeVon loved his God and country, serving as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Ordinance Corp during the Korean Conflict. A faithful Latter-day Saint, he was called to the Northern States Mission from 1947 to 1949. He enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts, was called often as a Stake Mission President, and served six years as a Patriarch in the SUU Third stake. He is preceded in death by his parents, all 14 siblings and first wife, Mary.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne, his children: Marie (Dan) Scott, Robyn, Dawn, Kyle (Marian), Mark (Bonnie), Jay (Mami), Sylvia (Tom) Breu, Ford (Kim), Brooks (Nancy), Sherman (Victoria), Joy (Michael) Yang, 41 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Friday, September 27 from 6-8 p.m. and from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Saturday, September 28 at the Cobble Creek Chapel, 2015 Wedgewood Lane, Cedar City, UT. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will be at 5:00 p.m. in the Draper City Cemetery, 12450 South 900 East, Draper, UT.
