Gertrude was born in Midyett community in Panola County, Texas on February 18, 1915. She was the daughter of Marvin and Maude Rosella Lagrone Gulley. She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She graduated from Carthage public schools and Port Arthur College. She was a former member of the Port Arthur Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter @262. She married Joe Wheeler Hill on September 17, 1932 and was preceded in death by her husband on February 5, 1937. She and Joe Wheeler had two sons. Robert Taylor born March 25, 1934 and died October 9, 2003. James Harold Hill born March 1936.
