STEPHENSON MAN SUCCUMBS TO CANCER
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Mrs. Rose Werner, Miss Mamie Duffrin and Leo Duffrin have returned from Stephenson, where they attended the funeral of Peter Duffrin. Of the death of Mr. Duffrin the Stephenson Journal had the following account.
After suffering constant pains from cancer of the stomach for the past five years, Peter Duffrin, a well known farmer and mill man breathed his last Monday morning.
Peter Duffrin was born in Washington county, Wis., on September 14, 1863, and moved to Stephenson township 25 years ago, locating on a farm northeast of this village. Four years later he married and ten children, seven boys and three girls, were born to them. Mr. Duffrin was a hard working farmer and at the time of his death was possessed of a valuable farm and also owner of a small sawmill located on the same.
Five years ago he took sick and went to a Green Bay hospital where an examination was held, and the cancerous growth in his stomach was discovered. Part of the organ was removed and he returned home feeling much improved. As time went on the old disease again made its appearance and a few weeks ago he returned to the hospital only to learn that there was no hope for him.
He was brought home and his condition grew steadily worse until Monday morning when death came to relieve his sufferings.
He is survived by his wife, seven sons, three daughters, three brothers, namely Joseph and Charles of this township and William of Gladstone, three sisters, Mrs. Rose Werner, Marinette, Mrs. Carrie Burden of Milwaukee and Mrs. Margaret Nienfouse of Greenleaf.
The funeral was conducted under the supervision of Wm. R. Winter, and took place at the R.C. church, the Rev. Father Carl Liedgens officiating. The pall bearers were old friends of the deceased, namely Peter, Fred and Joseph Cheltry, William Wells, Mike Vancort Jr, and Jack Schweltzer.
