JAMES H. CHESNUT DEAD

Died of heart failure at his home three miles north east of London on February 8, 1917, James H. Chesnut, son of Mary Anne Chesnut. He was born July 18, 1847. He was twice married, both wives having preceded him to the grave.

He was well as usual and had walked out of the yard and into the edge of the woods just a few steps when he fell, when his tow sons, who were with him, got to him he was dying. His death had been expected for a long time as his physician had told him he was uncurable(sic).

He was a member of the Baptist church at Old Salem. He leaves 6 children, 4 brothers, 2 sisters and a host of friends and relatives to mourn him.

To the children and grandchildren who are left in this world of sorrow, we would say look to Jesus for he is the sweetest comforter in all this affliction. He in all his wisdom, has robbed you of one of your dear ones and placed him as a beacon light in Heaven to his brothers, sisters and children.

We would say let us meet him in Heaven. The loving links which bind us here must be broken. Life is shadows and sunshine. We weep for the shadow which has fallen on your home. May God help lift the cross which is weighing your spirits so heavily and enable you to look beyond earthly storms into fields of unfading bloom where this loved one is waiting and watching for you.

His remains were laid to rest in the Chesnut graveyard to await the resurrection morning. Dearest brother we have laid thee, but thy memory will be cherished till we see thy heavenly face.
