CHESTER ROBERTS

Funeral services for Chester Mervin Roberts, 73, of 317 Bond Drive, Perris, Calif., were held Saturday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Rev. Lawrence Kelly officiated.

Graveside services were conducted by the Masonic Lodge.

Burial was in the Mountain View Section of the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lawrence Moss, Joe Feith, Harry Jones, Pete Zanetti, Olie Knudsen and Elmer Likes.

Mr. Roberts died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 29 at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Hospital in Riverside, Calif., where he had been a patient for six days.

He had been in ill health for the past year. He was born in Rock Springs on May 22, 1906, the son of the late Benjamin H. and Ann Fulton Roberts and was graduated from Rock Springs High School.

He married Dorothy Jane Jones in Ogden, Utah on Oct. 30, 1933. They had two daughters, Mary Ann and Judy. He was a former longtime Rock Springs resident and had moved to Ogden, Utah to make his home in 1956. His wife, Dorothy died on Feb. 18, 1973. On Oct. 1, 1977 he married Geraldine Hartshorn at Las Vegas, Nev., and has resided in Perris Calif., for the past 2 ½ years.

A retired electrical sales representative, he is survived by his wife, Geraldine, of Perris; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Mary Ann) Hicks of Rawlins and Mrs. Carl (Judy) Hafner of Rock Springs; a sister, Mrs. Ray (Millicent) Amsbury of Denver, Colo. and 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Several nieces and nephews and two stepdaughters, Louise Harshorn of Carmichael, Calif. and Mrs. Jean Schefft of Milwaukee, Wis., also survive.

Prior to moving to Ogden he owned and operated the Roberts Electrical Company in Rock Springs. He was a member of the Rock Springs Masonic Lodge Number 12 A.F. and A.M. and the Sun City Shrine Club of Calif., the A. and A. Free Scottish Rite of masonry, the American Association of Retired Persons and in 1932 was Scoutmaster in Rock Springs and in 1933 the temporary executive field director for all Boy Scout activities for the Rock Springs district.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Dorothy, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Morgan F. and Benjamin and a sister, Mrs. Sadie Horton.
