On 1 September 1818, Justine Clement was born into a large family at Salins, Jura, Franche-Comte, France, not far from the border with Switzerland. Her parents were Claude Antoine Clement and Adrienne Francoise Moine, and they were grape growers. Justine married Jean Pierre Bourbon at Salins, on 22 September 1841. He was also born there, as were their children, Francois (1842), Melitine (1846), Hypolite C. (1848), Jeanne Felicite (1850), and Elizabeth (1854). (Some of their birth dates in records at Salins differ from ones commonly reported in the United States.) The family (except for Melitine) immigrated to Missouri in 1855 and homesteaded land west of Richwoods, Washington County, MO. By about 1876 to 1880, the family moved to land near Luebbering, in Franklin County, MO. The parents and their son, Hypolite (Polete), remained there, but son Francois moved his family back to Washington County by 1894. Justine was 77 years old when she died and her husband was 84 years old when he died. She is buried by her husband, and near son Polete and members of his family, in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery, Luebbering, Franklin Co., MO. Daughter Felicite (Felicia) married Frederick Etienne Sansoucie and they eventually lived in DeSoto MO. She died in St Louis in 1923 and is buried at DeSoto, but we have not found her grave. Elizabeth (Lizzie) married Jacob Frost. She died in Franklin County in 1877 and is reported to be buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, near Lonedell, but we have not found her grave.
